Internal Complaints Committee of the Institute

The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) is constituted under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act). This Committee (ICC) plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, secure, and gender-sensitive environment.

Here are the key roles and responsibilities of the ICC of the Institute:

  • Awareness and Prevention: To organize gender sensitization workshops, seminars, and awareness programs for students and employees.
  • Receiving Complaints: To act as the primary body for receiving written complaints of sexual harassment from aggrieved women (staff, faculty, or students).
  • Conducting Inquiries: To conduct fair, impartial, and prompt inquiries into complaints, adhering to the principles of natural justice within a stipulated timeframe (usually 90 days).
  • Ensuring Confidentiality: To maintain strict confidentiality regarding the identity of the complainant, respondent, and witnesses, as well as the proceedings and recommendations.
  • Recommending Action: To recommend appropriate actions (such as penalties, transfer, or counseling) to the Competent Authority of the Institute against the perpetrator if the allegations are proven.
  • Providing Interim Relief: To recommend interim measures, such as restraining the respondent’s access, granting leave to the complainant, or shifting the complainant to another department, during the pendency of the complaint.
  • Reporting: To submit an annual report to the Competent Authority of the Institute detailing the number of cases filed, disposed of, and pending.

Procedural Rules

  • Time Limit: Complaints must be filed within 3 months of the Incident.
  • Conciliation: Before initiating an inquiry, the ICC may, at the request of the aggrieved women, take steps to settle the matter through conciliation, provided no monetary settlement is made.
  • Final Report: Upon completion, the ICC must provide a written report of its findings to both parties and the Institution.
