About Jabalpur

Jabalpur, anciently known as Jubbulgarh, is an archaic city in central India on the shores of the holy river Narmada and on the tributary plains the Hiran, Gour, Ken and Sone rivers. Jabalpur, the third largest urban agglomeration in state, is one of the major cities of Madhya Pradesh state in India located in the Mahakaushal region.
Jabalpur is an industrial city with a large component of defense industry and a lot of smaller cottage industry. Several important federal and state institutions are located in Jabalpur, including, the Madhya Pradesh High Court; four Ordnance Factories of the gigantic Ordnance Factories Board; the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board, the Tropical Forest Research Institute, and the zonal headquarters of the West Central Railway. It is a great education center as well, with five universities, Rani Durgavati University, Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, PDPM Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing, Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, and Madhya Pradesh Medical Sciences University. It also has many other art, science, engineering and medical colleges, viz. Jabalpur Engineering College, Government NSCB Medical College Hospital, Government Ayurvedic College, Government Model Science College, Government M H College of Home Science & Science for Women, Government Mahakoshal Arts & Commerce Autonomous College, etc. to name a few.
Jabalpur, referred to as the SanskarDhani (The Cultural-Capital) of Madhya Pradesh, is a major cultural-spiritual center in Central India and is the birthplace of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Osho Rajneesh. Jabalpur has a very cosmopolitan feel about it where you can find people of almost all major religions and castes in India. It is famous for various tourism attractions like Dhuandhar, Madan Mahal Fort, Tripur Sundari Temple, Jain Temple, etc. Jabalpur is known for its picturesque marble rock formations (Bhedaghat) across the banks of the river Narmada. Jabalpur is the hub of wild-life tourism, being surrounded by three national forests – Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Pench. It is also close to Khajurao (famous for Hindu and Jain temples) and Panchmarhi (Queen of Satpura – the highest point in Central India).

By plane

The Jabalpur Airport (JLR), also known as Dumna Airport, is only 4 km from the conference venue (IIITDM Jabalpur). Air India and SpiceJet flights are operated from both metro cities of Delhi and Mumbai. Venctura airconnect directly links Jabalpur with state capital Bhopal and other major cities such as Indore, Nagpur, etc.

By train

Jabalpur is on the Mumbai-Howrah (via Allahabad) main railway line. All mail, express and passenger trains halt at Jabalpur station. Jabalpur is well-connected with superfast trains and express trains from New Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bhopal, Bandhavgarh (Umaria), Jaipur, Lucknow, Chennai, Patna, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Goa, Vadodara, Jaipur, Nagpur, Varanasi & Patna. Apart from Jabalpur Main Station, Jabalpur city also has the Madan Mahal Station which generally caters to passengers from the inner part of the city.

By road

Jabalpur is connected by road to Varanasi, Nagpur, Bhopal, Jaipur, Raipur, Allahabad, Hyderabad, Bangalore. The Longest National Highway of India i.e. National Highway No. 7 run through the city. The National Highway No. 12 to Jaipur also originates from the city. There are daily bus services from Jabalpur to Nagpur, Katni, Jaipur, Gwalior, Bhopal, Indore, Allahabad, Raipur, etc.
