Liberal Arts - Mission

The Mission of the Institute is to create multidisciplinary academic environment. Liberal Arts education plays an important role in the mission of the Institute by nurturing the emotional quotient and spiritual quotient of the Engineering and Design students. It imparts to the students all the necessary skills that should give them as edge over in the placements and career growth. Besides, its courses like Cultural Studies and Consciousness Studies motivates the students to be creative and innovative in their inventions and discoveries.

Objectives of Liberal Arts

The department of Liberal Arts at PDPM IIITDMJ was established in August, 2021. Though English discipline has been in existence since 2006 and has taken care of the needs of BTech, MTech, BDes MDes and PhD (all disciplines) students, training them in Communication skills, Soft skills, Human Values and Cultural Studies. It has functioned in tune with the time serving the following objectives,

1. To train the Engineering and Design students in communicative competencies helping them with placements and career growth.

2. To nurture the creative and innovative aptitude and personality of the students through courses like Soft Skills, Human Values, and Cultural Studies

3. Efforts are being made to give an edge to the Engineering and Design students by supplying ideas from Literature, and Culture for the development of technologies promoting sustainable social growth.

4. The Department of Liberal Arts has been established on the basis that interdisciplinarity. Therefore, it serves the interests of the students with its bouquet of courses helping them in multi-disciplinary education.

5. The freedom engendered by such education helps create the ideal environment for advanced research and cutting-edge pedagogy, where new areas can be explored and further disseminated.

6. The diverse range of topics are developed for students to question the history of ideas, and to think creatively and critically about the world through the major developments in the humanities and the arts.

7. In the years to come, the Department of Liberal Arts seeks to become a centre for research and excellence where the pressing concerns and developments in the field of humanities, cognitive studies, consciousness studies, medical humanities and cultural studies are studied and disseminated in the local, national, and global contexts. It aims to build inter-institutional ties and collaborations of far-reaching impact by extending its expertise and spearheading research initiatives.
