About PDPM IIITDM Jabalpur:

IIITDM Jabalpur is an Institute of National Importance, established by Government of India in 2005 with a focus on education and research in IT enabled Design and Manufacturing. Since its inception, PDPM IIITDM Jabalpur has been playing a vital role in producing quality human resources for contribution in India’s mission of inclusive and sustainable growth. The Institute offers undergraduate, post graduate and PhD programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Design and PhD programmes in Natural Sciences (Mathematics and Physics). Under IIIT act, the Institute has been declared as an Institute of National Importance in January 2015. The Institute campus is being developed on 250 acres of land close to Dumna Airport, Jabalpur. How to apply?

There is no registration fee for the faculty members from AICTE approved Institutes. However, they need to deposit Rs. 1,000/- as a refundable caution deposit which will be refunded to them (who attend the course) on completion of course, along with admissible TA/DA.
Research Scholar and industry persons can also participate by paying non-refundable fee of Rs. 1,000/- and Rs. 5,000/- respectively. "However, they will not be entitled for TA/DA"

Important Dates:

Last Date for submission of registration form through email: February 21, 2020.
Invitation to selected participants will be sent by February 22, 2020.

Last Date for payment of refundable caution deposit: February 25, 2020.



Accommodation (If required)

Accommodation will be provided in visitor’s hostel/student’s hostel guest rooms for all participants at no charge to the participants. Selected candidates will be entitled for to-and-fro sleeper class (Second class) or III AC railway fare by shortest route. . Please refer Important Information.



About the course:

Program will be a unique opportunity for those who are keenly looking for Additive Manufacturing as tool for a wide variety of Biomedical Applications using Biomedical Image Processing for design of novel material-based medical implants and devices, design and manufacturing of on demand 3D-printed medical implants such as temporary scaffolds and other permanent supportive implants to meet the patient’s urgent need. It is hands-on experience oriented skill development program with extensive applications of biomedical image processing using the advanced tools like MAGICS, MIMICS and MATLAB for CAD model preparation and its manipulation as well data preparation, slicing etc. used for Additive Manufacturing.
The course will be beneficial to researchers, scientist as well as medical practitioners involved with biomedical applications and keenly looking for using Additive Manufacturing as a tool for Biomedical Application.

Course Contents

  • Basics of Biomedical Engineering: Additive Manufacturing and its application in design of Biomedical implants, devices and scaffolds for advanced tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
  • Biomedical image acquisition: X-ray Imaging, CT-scanning (CBCT and µCT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Basics of image processing, Segmentation and region growing of biomedical image: Optimal thresholding, Region-oriented, segmentation of images, Edge detection
  • Biomedical image processing and 3D modelling using MIMICS: Basic operations in MIMICS, Mimics Navigation, Segmentation, Splitting and merging of region, Region growing, Surgical Simulation, CAD link and STL generation, Thresholding
  • STL editing and pre-processing of solid model for Additive Manufacturing using MAGICS: Basic operations in MAGICS, STL standard data formats, Errors in STL file, STL repairing methods, Part orientation, Support creation.
  • Additive Manufacturing with MATLAB: Data preparation for additive manufacturing, Slicing, STL files manipulation using MATLAB, Tool path preparation using MATLAB
  • Case studies: Image Processing, Applications of MAGICS, MIMICS and MATLAB
