At Design Discipline IIITDMJ, we follow a multidisciplinary design approach in our programmes. This helps develop a diverse knowledge foundation and skillset spanning from social to advanced technical applications of design. Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)


Bachelor’s of design program at design discipling is completing its 5th year, started in 2015 B.Des aims to provide a holistic perspective of design education to the young designers of the country. The undergraduate curriculum aims at developing designers who are strong in their fundamentals and are ready to venture in any area of design namely product, communication, space, interaction or service design.

B.Des in design discipline is a 4-year full-time program divided into 8 semesters. Starting from the basics of design, arts, and aesthetics our students learn the most advanced and modern design courses such as Interface Design, Industrial design, Service design, Transportation design, Ergonomics, and many others.

With a vision to provide an ecosystem of design to young minds, Our B.Des program is designed such that students can grasp a multidimensional application of methodologies, tools, and analysis in terms of problem-solving and innovation.



Master of Design (M.Des.)


The Master of Design postgraduate programme at Design Discipline was initiated in 2008, for students that wished to further their education through advanced studies. The programme is carefully crafted for those who have completed their undergraduate education in both design and non-design related fields. It offers a range of specializations and the freedom to switch between fields of interest as the individual wishes

The Master of Design programme is a 2-year-long course divided into 4 semesters. The programme follows a multidisciplinary approach and consists of elective courses as well as common advanced design fundamentals courses. The curriculum begins with common advanced foundation courses and moves into broad divisions of product design, interaction design and visual design. The final semester of the programme is dedicated to internships and the design theses. Only students who have completed a degree or a diploma programme of a minimum of 4 years are eligible for the Master of Design programme.

Our M.Des programme is created to ensure that the students are encouraged to take on research projects, explore innovations and gain real world experience in the sector as emerging advanced designers.



Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The Doctor of Philosophy in Design is a research programme that focuses on development of skills related to presentations, teaching and other academic activities in addition to the research aspect. It is centred on exploring and expanding knowledge in the field of design as a scholar.

Students who have completed a Masters’ degree in Design, Technology and/or Architecture are eligible for this programme
